In reality you don't need to fit nightstands and have 'walk space'. You only need to be able to change the bed and space to move around the bed, change the sheets and get in i, so 10 x 12 is NOT the true minimum size of a room. That is more like 6 ft 8 inches by 9.10 inches or so.
