The Most Important Garage Clearances

The manufacturer’s specifications are the starting point rather than the end point; each dimension listed below represents the space between the RV and the building, and all of them have a reason for being that you’ll realize during the first week.

A dimension that is often sized wrong: Fifth wheels. The height listed is about 13’5″, which means that with a 14-foot door you’ll have around 7 inches to work with. This is no problem on flat, level concrete but becomes terrifying when approaching a slope since the front of the trailer rises as the truck begins to go up the incline. If you’re towing a fifth wheel, then choose a 15 or 16-foot door and stop worrying about it.

How Wide Should an RV Garage Be?
