If you are looking for recourse to regular swinging doors, you might want to look into installing pocket doors for your home for a change. Pocket doors open like French doors where they slide inside a wall compartment with a roller mechanism that, when it is fully opened, the door disappears.

Because of this, pocket doors are a great alternative that would eliminate the clearance space typically required for regular hinged doors. If you are looking for a space-saving solution to cut rooms in your house and add privacy for spaces, these sliders are a great solution.

Standard Pocket Door Sizes

Standard pocket door size

There are three types of pocket doors, and the most standard of them, or the regularly utilized type, is the single panel. Still, before we move to the exact measurements, we must first know the difference between the doorway opening and the maximum overall dimensions

In a nutshell, doorway openings, which are also known as passage size, are the actual height and width of the opening.

The standard size for a pocket door is the same as that of a hinged door, with a width of 30 or 36 inches or 76 to 91 centimeters and a height of 80 inches or 203 centimeters.

On the other hand, maximum overall dimensions refer to the entire space needed to install the panel, including the frame where the pocket door will “disappear.”

For the width, the maximum overall size will include the width of the door itself and the structure it will come in. Heights will consist of the overall door height plus the architrave’s height (The molded frame around the doorway.)

Single Pocket Door Dimensions

Single pocket door dimensionsAside from the standard panels available widely and utilized in most homes, you can have single-pocket sliders wider than 30 or 36″ and also higher than the usual 80″ panel

You can have narrower pocket doors at 24″ or 61 cm. These doors are usually a fixture for spaces like pantry entries or even laundry rooms. There are also wider single-pocket panels that go up to 48″ or about 122 cm to separate bigger spaces like living rooms.

If you want one higher than the standard 80″ or 203 cm, you can easily choose a product that is 120″ or 305 cm high.

Pocket Door Opening Dimensions

A pocket doorway opening is where a person will pass. It is the usable part of the door, excluding the frame. The opening size of your doorway will depend on your home construction, but usually, the tiniest opening should be 26″ or 66 cm wide with a height of 78″ or 198 cm.

The standard opening measurements are 24 to 36″ wide and 80″ tall.

Pocket Door Frame Dimensions

The door frame measurements are the full structural opening size of the entire unit. This is where the door will be “disappearing.” The frame size will differ across single and double-panel styles, but it usually needs a wall thickness of 125 millimeters or about 5 inches
