Small Bedroom Layouts With A Queen Bed: 5 Floor Plans That Fit Perfectly

Bright and modern, small bedroom with a queen sized bed and wood dressers

If you’ve got a small bedroom and want to fit a queen bed, it’s totally doable; you just need a plan before the mattress goes in. It’s usually not the bed size that gets you in trouble; it’s knowing where the dresser goes, whether the door clears, and if you’ll have the space to walk around and get dressed. I’ve created these 5 small bedroom layouts to show you the different ways to layout a queen bed so it makes sense. You’ll see room sizes like 9×10, 10×11, 9×12, 10×12 and 11×11. Each layout has a different solution depending on your needs, whether it’s storage, a reading nook, a WFH setup, etc. Just select the design that matches your room’s dimensions and use it for your own home.

9×10 Small Bedroom with Centered Queen Bed & Vertical Storage Layout

This compact bedroom layout works because it treats the bed as furniture, by centering it confidently and routing traffic around it with nightstands on either side and a wardrobe in front.

9×10 Small Bedroom with Centered Queen Bed & Vertical Storage Layout

Floor plan details: This small 9×10 bedroom centers the queen bed measuring 60″×80″ along the left wall, leaving a path for traffic on the right and on either side. Since the bed is not pushed into a corner, it feels more balanced and gives each person access to their own side. There are two small nightstands that are 10″×12 each, flanking the bed on the top and bottom along the left side. On the right side, there’s a slim wardrobe at 16″×48″ with about a 24″ pathway between it and the foot of the bed. The entry door is located on the lower right and swings inward. The top wall has a wide window to benefit from natural light, and there’s a 24″ pathway on either side of the bed, which is tight but walkable. Dimensions:

  • Room size: 9′ × 10′
  • Bed: 60″ × 80″ (standard queen)
  • Nightstands: 10″ × 12″ each
  • Wardrobe: 16″ × 48″ (shallow, but great for small spaces)
  • Right-side clearance: 30″
  • Pathways around bed: 24″ on the top, bottom and right-hand side.

Design tips:

  • Go vertical with storage to accompany the narrow 16″ deep wardrobe.
  • Add a mirror on the right wall to help make the corridor feel less cramped.
  • Avoid using a bulky headboard and opt for a wall-mounted shelf or floating ledge to keep the visual weight low.
  • Use the matching nightstands to promote symmetry and make the room feel aesthetically balanced.
  • Place a light rug under the bed to frame that space.
  • Install wall sconces to free up nightstand surface space and help and reduce clutter.
  • Use under-bed drawers and bins for storing your bulky items like blankets or seasonal clothes.

10×11 Bedroom Layout with One-Side Queen Size Bed & Long Dresser

This layout sacrifices the walkway on one side for a larger, roomier space on the other with an extra long drawer for your clothing.

10×11 Bedroom Layout with One-Side Queen Size Bed & Long Dresser

Floor plan details: This one-sided bedroom design measures 10×11 and gets its name from the larger aisle it provides on one side of the bed at the expense of the other. In this one, the queen bed (60″×80″) is pushed against the left wall with just a 12″ gap at the top, making it quite a shuffle to access, but it grants a larger 48″ on the opposite side that works for dressing or just a more open feel. Instead of two, there’s just a single 18″ x 16″ nightstand with almost the whole right wall being claimed by a long, shallow dresser that measures 78″×18″ with a mirror above it. The door swings in from the bottom right corner, with a 34″ path between the dresser and the bed leading to a window centered along the top wall.

Dimensions:

  • Room size: 10′ × 11′
  • Bed: 60″ × 80″ (queen)
  • Dresser: 78″ × 18″ (long and shallow on the right wall)
  • Chair/stool: 18″ × 16″ (on the bottom left corner)
  • Top wall spacing: 52″ total window zone, 34″ inner opening
  • Bottom clearance: 48″

Design tips:

  • Hang a mirror above the dresser to double the perceived depth of the room.
  • Consider ditching the nightstand and going with a high dresser that fits the 48″ space on the lower, right side of the room if you need additional storage.
  • If you want to keep the nightstand, you may have room for a small accent chair next to it for putting on shoes or just sitting and relaxing.
  • Add a smaller rug under just the lower two-thirds of the bed to keep the open floor feeling open.
  • Since the 12″ bed gap at the top is awkward to clean, add a simple bed riser with wheels to solve that problem quietly.

9×12 Bedroom with Queen on Long Wall & Mini Desk Work-From-Home Layout

This bedroom layout works because it segments the space between work and sleep areas, each of which has its own wall.

9×12 Bedroom with Queen on Long Wall & Mini Desk Work-From-Home Layout

Floor plan details: This 9×12 bedroom positions its queen bed along one long side in the perfect command position, which, in Feng Shui principles, means the most important or largest piece of furniture is positioned diagonally from the entryway. It should be placed in view of the entrance, but not lined up with the doorway. This is said to enhance the feel of security and control within the room.

Along with that, this floor plan is focused on combining both sleep and work in the same room, without it feeling like a cramped studio apartment. To get these results, the queen at 60″×80″ is centered on the top wall with matching nightstands measuring 10″×12″ on both sides. The right wall is devoted to a shallow 48″×18″ desk in the upper corner with a chair tucked in, and a 54″×18″ dresser to handle your clothing storage. Both are only 18″ deep, so the right side stays functional. The entry door swings in from the bottom left, with about 28″ of clearance.

Dimensions:

  • Room size: 9′ × 12′
  • Bed: 60″ × 80″
  • Nightstands: 10″ × 12″ each
  • Desk: 48″ × 18″
  • Dresser: 54″ × 18″
  • Door clearance: 28″
  • Window zone: 60″ wide, 42″ inner opening

Design tips:

  • Keep the desk zone visually separate by adding a small pendant light or dedicated desk lamp so it looks like its own work area.
  • Choose furniture pieces on the right wall at 18″ deep to keep the 42″ aisle.
  • Maintain the symmetrical nightstands as they add visual balance.
  • A WFH setup in a bedroom works better with your back to the bed, not facing it.
  • Consider a room divider or curtain between the desk and bed if you struggle to mentally clock out after work.

10×12 Bedroom Floor Plan with Corner Queen & Reading Nook

This plan uses a corner queen-positioned bed to free up more open floor area that splits the room into two genuine zones, for sleep and study.

10×12 Bedroom Floor Plan with Corner Queen & Reading Nook

Floor plan details: This 10×12 bedroom uses a corner queen placement in the top-left corner with a single nightstand and a 10″ x 48″ bench in front. The large floor space gives you a more comfortable space to move around in. On the right side, there’s a 54″ x 54″ reading nook area with a round chair that can be used in front of a small desk or vanity, depending on your needs. Down on the bottom right, there’s a shallow wardrobe measuring 16″×48″ that handles clothing in a small footprint. The door swings in from the right wall into the open floor space.

Dimensions:

  • Room size: 10′ × 12′
  • Bed: 60″ × 80″ (corner placement)
  • Bench: 10″ × 48″
  • Reading chair: 54″ × 54″
  • Mirror: 18″ × 18″
  • Wardrobe: 16″ × 48″
  • Bed-to-nook clearance: 30″
  • Bottom floor span: 96″

Design tips:

  • Use the corner bed placement with a single nightstand to ensure there’s plenty of room to get dressed, access the desk/vanity, and walk around.
  • Add a good light source like a floor or desk lamp to the reading nook and keep it warm-toned for better ambiance.
  • Place a storage-style bench at the foot of the bed to keep linens and extra pillows.
  • Choose a platform-style bed or one on risers so there is room underneath for clothing storage.
  • Enlarge the wardrobe or swap it out for a large dresser for more clothing space.

11×11 Bedroom Floor Plan with Centered Queen Size Bed, 6′ Closet Wall & Dresser Storage

This bedroom design keeps everything perfectly balanced, with the bed in the center, with nightstands on either side, all facing a TV and storage wall.

11×11 Bedroom Floor Plan with Centered Queen Size Bed, 6' Closet Wall & Dresser Storage

Floor plan details: This 11×11 bedroom is great for couples as it features a centered queen bed that faces a TV with 6 feet of dresser storage. This is the most symmetrical layout of the bunch, with a queen that sits dead center on the top wall. It’s flanked by two matching nightstands with matching mirrors measuring 18″×18″ each on either side. The bottom wall is where the storage sits with two dressers at 36″×20″ each in the left and right corners, with a wall-mounted TV console measuring 12″×60″ in the center between them. The foot of the bed faces the TV directly with a clean sight line. There’s a large space on the left for a reach-in closet or window on the left wall and an entry door on the far right.

Dimensions:

  • Room size: 11′ × 11′
  • Bed: 60″ × 80″
  • Mirrors: 18″ × 18″ each (flanking bed)
  • Dressers: 36″ × 20″ each (bottom corners)
  • TV: 12″ × 60″
  • Top window: 36″ wide
  • Left wall closet: between 32″ and 40″ down

Design tips:

  • Add the twin mirrors behind both nightstands, so they look symmetrical and reflect light to make the room brighter.
  • Use a TV placement that is the right height for your viewing distance.
  • Keep the 20″ dresser depth if you want real deep drawer space.
  • Place a large area rug under the bed to pull the space together and give it shape.
Replace the regular nightstands with a floating wall shelf on each side for a slimmer profile.
  • Use under-bed drawers or lift-up storage for your off-season items.
  • Keep the “storage wall” visually light by using matching doors, simple hardware, and minimal color contrast.
