A laundry room sink is one of those features you don’t really think about until you need it. Sinks can help you rinse, scrub, and pre-treat stains, or just let muddy clothes sit for a while before washing. They’re ideal for all of the messy moments you don’t want brought into your bathroom or kitchen. In this guide, I’m sharing five laundry room layouts with a sink, ranging from compact galley rooms to larger U-shapes and mudroom combos. Each plan breaks down the washer and dryer placement, important dimensions to use, and the design tips that help you get the most functionality.

Floor Plan Details: This 6′ × 8′ compact galley laundry features one wall as the work zone containing a utility sink, front-load washer and dryer, and tall storage along the 8-foot wall. The opposite side remains open as a 36″ aisle, so there’s room to maneuver with your dirty clothing and items. As you enter through the left side door at the lower end, the door swing lands in the open floor area, but not into any appliances. Along the top, you’ll find a 24″ × 24″ sink, followed by the full-size dryer and washer positioned side-by-side, and lastly, a broom pull-out and a tall cabinet zone. This cabinet area is perfect for storing all of your cleaning tools and supplies and keeping them out of sight. To help with cleaning duties, there is a built-in countertop over the sink, washing machine, and dryer.
Dimensions:
Room size: 6′ × 8′
Door opening: 36″
Working aisle: 36″
Utility sink: 24″ × 24″
Front-load dryer footprint: 27″ × 34″
Front-load washer footprint: 27″ × 34″
Base/counter depth shown: 25″
Upper cabinet depth shown: 12″
Design Tips:
Maintain the 36″ aisle to keep the room usable.
Use the upper cabinets for detergents and paper goods so the floor stays clear and easy to mop.
In addition to the sink counter, consider a small fold-down shelf on the open wall for ironing, folding, or setting down hampers.
Install a wall-mounted drying rack or hanging rod over the sink to create a handwash & drip-dry station.
Choose a durable, water-friendly floor material throughout and backsplash near the basin.
For lighting fixtures, use 1 flush-mount or low-profile LED on the ceiling, and an under-cabinet LED strip over the sink/counter, or a small downlight for task work.
7×11 Hall-Style Laundry Floor Plan with Sink, Cabinet & Hanging Rail
This laundry setup positions all of the essentials onto one wall and pairs this with a large aisle that makes it easy to maneuver and the machines easy to load.
Floor Plan Details: This 7′ × 11′ hall-style laundry arranges the laundry machines and storage along one long wall that spans from the sink on the far left to the front-load dryer and washer, and then a base cabinet with a hanging rail. The overall effect is a laundry corridor that feels more open and provides extra clearance for moving clothing loads in and out. You benefit from an efficient workflow that flows from sink for pre-treating, to dryer/washer pair to the cabinet zone for storage and a countertop landing surface. As you enter through the 36″ door on the left, the appliances are placed almost in the middle of the top 11-foot wall so you can pivot to the sink on the left and storage counters on the right. The entire span has an elevated hanging rail over the cabinets for air-drying, de-wrinkling, and staging clothes as needed.
Use the rail as the finishing station to hang-dry delicates, or hang shirts directly from the dryer to prevent wrinkles.
Add a continuous counter from the sink across the machines with proper supports to use as a folding zone.
Keep upper cabinets shallow with 12″ deep uppers that can hold your detergents, towels, and cleaning supplies.
Spruce up the sink with a pull-down faucet and a small stain-treatment ledge, or drying rack above for extra utility and function.
Put hampers or a rolling sorter near the door so you can more easily treat them at the sink, and then move them to wash and dry.
For lighting, install 2 recessed ceiling LEDs spaced down the length, under-cabinet strips for tasks on the counter/sink run, and 1 small recessed/downlight near the hanging rail.
8×10 L-Shape Laundry with Corner Sink Layout and Side-by-Side Washer & Dryer
This L-shaped laundry wraps a full washer & dryer run on one side with a corner sink and a storage zone on the other, combined with a wide, comfortable center aisle.
Floor Plan Details: This 8′ × 10′ L-shape layout uses an effective two wall design to create a true work triangle laundry setup. The washer and dryer machines are positioned along the top run on the far left, leading to a 30″ x 25″ base cabinet and a corner double basin sink. On the right side, there is a storage run that’s well laid out for organization and function. It starts with an 18″ x 25″ cabinet for soap and detergent, followed by a 26″ x 25″ storage area, and finishing with an 18″ x 25″ pantry for extra food or linen storage. This arrangement provides surface area on top of the upper 30″ base cabinet so you have a folding and stain treatment area right next to the corner sink.
Dimensions:
Room size: 8′ × 10′
Door opening: 36″
Front-load dryer footprint: 27″ × 34″
Front-load washer footprint: 27″ × 34″
Base cabinet (near corner): 30″ × 25″
Soap/detergent cabinet: 18″ × 25″
Base cabinet (right wall): 26″ × 25″
Pantry cabinet (right wall): 18″ × 25″
Open floor/aisle shown: 57″ (center working space)
Design Tips:
Run a durable and continuous countertop across the machines, spanning to the sink for more surface space.
Use the 18″ soap/detergent zone for storing all of your pods, stain spray, and dryer sheets, with a small trash can so the counter stays clear.
Reserve the pantry for bulky food packages or tall items like paper towels, extra detergent, linens, and ironing gear.
For lighting, install 1 to 2 recessed LEDs on the ceiling centered to cover the open floor area, and under-cabinet LED strips on both legs of the L.
For added effect, add a toe-kick LED under the cabinets for a stylish look.
9×12 U-Shape Laundry with Sink Layout and Dual Pull-Out Hampers
This U-shape laundry wraps functionality along three sides with built-in sorting from matching dual hampers, long folding counters, machines in the middle, and hanging, ironing, and storage zones with a comfortable center aisle.
Floor Plan Details: This 9′ × 12′ U-shape laundry is designed to be the ultimate laundry workstation with counter space and storage on three sides. At the top middle, you get a side-by-side front-load washer and dryer with two matching pull-out hampers to let you sort laundry before it hits the machines. On both sides of the machines, the plan adds pull-out hamper towers so you can sort out lights & darks, or adults & kids to separate them and speed up the entire washing process. The left leg of the “U” starts with a tall 24″ x 24″ tall cabinet on the bottom, followed by a 60″ long counter span with overhead hanging rails. The top run begins with a 30″ x 25″ base cabinet followed by a 15″ 25″ pull out hamper, then the two front end loader machines, and extra hamper and another small countertop stretch. Finally, the right side starts with a 60″ stretch of cabinetry with countertop above, ending with another 24″ x 24″ tall cabinet.
Dimensions:
Room size: 9′ × 12′
Washer footprint: 27″ × 34″
Dryer footprint: 27″ × 34″
Left-side base cabinet (top left): 30″ × 25″
Tall cabinets (bottom left + bottom right): 24″ × 24″ each
Dual pull-out hamper zones (left + right of machines): 15″ × 25″ each
Counter/base depth shown: 25″
Hanging rails height notes: 60″ and 50″
Entry/opening shown at bottom: two 36″ panels (wide 72″ total opening)
Approx. center aisle between 25″ side counters: 58″ (108″ −25″ −25″)
Design Tips:
Use the hampers to sort dirty clothes such as lights/darks, kids/adults, towels/everything, so your laundry stays organized and not piled up.
Run the counter above the machines to create a long folding runway.
Put delicates and drip-dry items on the left hanging rails where they are easily accessible.
Use the right counter as your ironing & steaming station.
Put all of your bulky items in the tall cabinets, with one devoted to linens/guest bedding, and the other for brooms/vacuum/cleaning supplies.
For ceiling lighting, install 2 to 3 recessed LEDs to evenly light all three countertops and eliminate shadows, under-cabinet lighting on the sink wall and ironing side, and interior cabinet lights or LED pucks to make it easier find supplies.
10×12 Mudroom Laundry Combo with Utility Sink Floor Plan
This design designates one side as a laundry wall with the opposite as a mudroom with bench-and-cubby drop zones, so messes are contained and handled right when it enters the house.
Floor Plan Details: This 10′ × 12′ mudroom and laundry room combination is set up as a practical entry and clothes drop-off zone so messes are contained and mud isn’t tracked throughout the home. The laundry equipment is placed along the 12-foot upper wall, starting with the sink, side-by-side washer & dryer and cabinet storage. The lower wall is set up as the mudroom side with a long bench, cubbies, and a counter for bags, shoes, and other clothing clutter. This is designed to keep messes from migrating further into the house.
Dimensions:
Room size: 10′ × 12′
Door opening: 36″
Utility sink: 30″ × 36″
Front-load dryer footprint: 27″ × 34″
Front-load washer footprint: 27″ × 34″

Bottom wall run shown: 18″ + 108″ + 18″ (cubby, main run, and cubby)
Open floor area noted: 58″ to 70″ (varies across the center)
Design Tips:
To complete the mudroom functionality, add hooks above the bench and label cubbies for different kids to keep their backpacks and shoes organized.
Install a deep basin for deep cleaning with a pull-down faucet, and a durable backsplash to better deal with muddy kid clothes or pet cleanup.
Use the tall cabinet to hold your brooms, vacuum, bulk detergent, paper towels, and pet supplies.
Put a small tray or basket system to organize accessories so the counter doesn’t collect all of the clutter.
Add easy to clean flooring, and paint the walls with washable paint.
Light the room with recessed LEDs on the ceiling of the laundry side and a second recessed fixture for the mudroom side over the bench zone. Also consider under-cabinet lighting at the sink/counter.
For extra style and illumination, install wall sconces or an over-bench light, especially if you don’t get a lot of natural light.
